T1 Tandem Rating - $800
This is the non-commercial rating and is a two-day course. Candidates must demonstrate tandem flights with USHPA pilots, pass the T1 exam, and have a current CPR/First Aid certification. Candidates must also conduct 25 approved tandem flights on their own time, submit their tandem gear for Admin approval, and then return for a check flight with an Admin at a later date for final sign-off.
T3 Tandem Rating - $1200
This is the commercial tandem rating. This course takes place over three days. Candidates must complete all requirements of T1, pass the T3 exam, and pass the Fundamentals of Instruction exam. Candidates must also conduct 25 approved tandem flights on their own time, submit their tandem gear for Admin approval, and then return for a check flight with an Admin at a later date for final sign-off.
Recertifications - $600
This is for tandem pilots who need to get their USHPA certifications renewed and is a one day course. Pilots will need to show a current CPR/First Aid certification, current USHPA membership, conduct a check flight, and submit their equipment for Admin approval.
Tandem Clinics are ultimately an evaluation of the your maturity, skill level, judgement, and knowledge. While there will be some coaching where relevant, the broader goal of this clinic is to assess you by these metrics rather than to instruct you about specifics of tandem flying.
As a Tandem Pilot Candidate, you should already have a P4 Advanced Pilot rating prior to applying for this clinic. All prerequisite skills like kiting, launching, and landing, and basic legal, weather, and technical knowledge should be well established before considering this clinic.
If you do not have tandem gear for your clinic, you may rent gear from the school for the days you are attending the clinic.
Enrollment does not guarantee your rating! If you do not meet the minimum requirements and expectations during your evaluation, then your rating will not be issued upon completion of the clinic.
In the event that there are no other candidates taking the course at the same time, you may be responsible for finding a rated pilot to volunteer as your passenger. Please arrange ahead of time to have a rated pilot that can be your passenger if you require one in case another candidate is not available.
